QUINCY — Two members of the Quincy Park Board have decided to run for re-election, but two others will not.

John Frankenhoff and Barb Holthaus hope to return to the board, while David Grimm, Cecil Weathers, Greg Artz and Josh Crabtree filed statements of candidacy before the Nov. 18 deadline as they try to secure their first four-year terms with the board. The consolidated election is set for April 1.

The terms of Patty McGlothlin and Trent Lyons will end in the spring.

McGlothlin was first appointed to the board in November 2008, then elected to four-year terms in 2009 and 2013. She did not seek re-election in 2017, but she was re-appointed to the Park Board in June 2020 to fill the seat vacated by Bob Gough, who resigned in March 2020.

McGlothin, a long-time elementary school teacher, retained her seat in the April 2021 election when she was one of four people to run for election to four spots.

“I feel it’s time for more people to get involved in city government,” McGlothlin said. ”I’ve served many years, and I think it’s time for some new blood.”

She said she made the decision not to run “in the last couple of months.”

“I want to do all the grandma things,” said McGlothlin, who has seven grandchildren from her son and two daughters. “I don’t want to be tied down. It’s not like it’s a huge commitment, but still, you feel like you should be at every meeting.”

Attempts to reach Lyons for comment on Monday were unsuccessful.

Lyons, who works for Kohl Wholesale, was appointed to the Park Board in July 2023 to replace Jeff Van Camp, who said he resigned from the Park Board in June because of how Jarid Jones was elected as president at the board’s May 11 meeting.  Lyons was elected as vice president of the board when Mark Philpot was elected as president in May.

Holthaus has been the director of advancement at John Wood Community College since 1999, and she also is the director of the JWCC Foundation. She is seeking her third four-year term on the board. She was first elected in 2017, and she previously has served as vice president of the board.

Frankenhoff is the systems administrator for Quincy/Adams County 911 Center, and he also owns and operates Quincy Premium Transportation, a limousine service. He is the Park Board’s longest-serving commissioner, having been elected to his first term in 2001. He is attempting to be elected to his seventh four-year term. He has been Park Board president multiple times, with his most recent one-year term in 2022.
