The most popular stories tend to be the most tragic. They are the ones that deal with crime, courts and fatal car crashes.

So here are the most read stories that dealt with those subjects in 2022 according to our internal analytics. We’ve moved nothing up or down in the rankings based on our opinions.

1. Quincy man jailed, faces four misdemeanor charges for reckless conduct and disorderly conduct -The saga of Jason Priest was one of the most followed stories on Muddy River News in 2022.

2. Schuyler County judge killed when truck hits him while riding bicycle – Mark Vincent won the write-in election for the judicial seat that was vacated following the death of Ramon Escapa.

3. Two dead after crash between truck, sedan Saturday morning on Ill. 336 north of Mendon – Four people were also injured in this crash in Keene Township.

4. Second-degree murder charges filed against two people in connection to Sunday morning death outside Hannibal bar – There are now five people charged for the murder of Dusty Wilson.

5. One dead, three injured in multi-car crash on Illinois 104 – This incident took place almost one year ago.
6. Request to increase Jason Priest’s bond to $100,000 denied, but judge places him on electronic surveillance – It’s been pretty quiet on the Jason Priest front lately. We hope he is getting the help he needs.
7. Guilty, then not guilty: Judge causes tempest by changing verdict in criminal sexual assault case, delivering rebuke from bench – Judge Robert Adrian made this ruling on January 7, 2022. Seems like only yesterday.
8. Hannibal attorney running for judge charged with felony for attempted tampering with victim – Tyler White lost his election in August and is scheduling for a preliminary hearing on February 1.

9. Lovelace, his sons and wife to receive $4.5 million in settlement of 2017 civil lawsuit against city, county – Lovelace continues to work as a defense attorney.

10. Monroe City woman armed with AR-15 rifle, bag of ammunition arrested after Tuesday incident – This incident could’ve ended much worse.
