QUINCY — The Salvation Army of Quincy kicked off the holiday season with its annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign Kick-Off event on Nov. 21 at The Kroc Center. This event introduced the campaign chairs and revealed this year’s fundraising goal.

The honorary chairs for the Christmas Campaign are Mike and Jean Buckley, along with their daughters Sara Terwelp and Megan Costigan. The campaign’s goal has been set at $440,000, which will support The Salvation Army’s ongoing mission to assist individuals and families in need across Adams, Pike and Brown counties in Illinois.

In a press release, Jean Buckley said, “We have been involved with the Tracy Family Foundation for many years and are not strangers to the needs in Adams, Brown, and Pike. We have witnessed first-hand the challenges that so many people face in life. We are happy to be part of one of the great traditions in Quincy, helping with The Salvation Army Christmas Campaign.”

The funds raised during the Red Kettle Campaign support critical programs and services that provide a “hand up” to neighbors in need. Last year, The Salvation Army of Quincy made a significant impact:

  • 10,027 individuals received assistance from The Salvation Army
  • 727 individuals received 6,341nights of lodging at the Emergency Shelter
  • 27,520 meals were provided to shelter residents
  • 1,328 food boxes were given to the community
  • 163 households received utility assistance
  • 333 individuals received housing assistance

Also, during the 2023 Christmas Season:

  • 812 families received Christmas food baskets
  • 3,437 toys, gift cards, and clothing items were given to children through the Angel Tree Program
  • 782 individuals were provided with dinner on Thanksgiving and Christmas
