Quincy Salvation Army making changes to canteen ministry
QUINCY — After a little more than six months of serving, the Quincy Salvation Army’s canteen ministry is changing the days and times it serves the public.
The canteen, which offers sack dinners and drinks, personal care items and information about additional Salvation Army services, will change days to Tuesdays rather than Wednesdays starting Sept. 14. It will serve Indian Hills from 4 to 4:45 p.m. The canteen will be in Frederick Ball’s Eighth Street parking lot from 5 to 5:30 p.m. It will move to the corner of Ninth and Lind from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
The canteen ministry focuses on serving food and personal care items to people who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless and community members who have food insecurities.
“This ministry is a great way for us to meet and serve our neighbors. Our team prepares, delivers and serves the meals with one goal in mind: to express the idea that someone cares about them,” Quincy Area Coordinator Major Trevor McClintock said.
The Salvation Army Family Services, 501 Broadway, is open from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Call 217-222-2087.
The Salvation Army’s food pantries provide shelf-stable pantry items, bread, cereal, meat and other household necessities. It is open from 10-11 a.m. Monday through Friday.
The Bread Basket program offers a variety of breads and treats that have been donated by local bakeries and businesses. It is open from 9-10 a.m. Monday through Friday.
