Letter to the Editor: Miller’s ‘conservative policies’ have very little to do with district she represents

Congresswoman Mary Miller recently voted in favor of President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill.” However, when you look at what Miller voted for, it’s clear that she either didn’t know what she was voting for or her so-called “conservative priorities” have very little to do with her district.

Before the House vote on the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” Miller had posted a video to her newsletter subscribers in which she tried to blame the “liberal media” and “Democrats” for the narrative that the GOP wanted to cut Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security. In that video, she promised these were liberal lies, and the GOP would never, ever cut those services every single one of us is entitled to.

Then she voted for the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which will cut more than $800 million from Medicaid alone and will devastate Medicare financially. You may not use Medicaid or Medicare at this point, but if you live in Quincy or the surrounding areas, your healthcare relies on the federal monies Medicaid and Medicare bring into the Blessing Health System and the Quincy Medical Group system.

Who will pay the doctors’ and nurses’ salaries if our area loses those funds? Who will pay for the supplies used at every doctor’s visit? The costs will rise to the point that no private insurer will be willing to cover a routine visit. Even individual providers are in real danger of closing their doors if they lose enough Medicaid patients. All of our healthcare is subsidized by Medicaid and Medicare.

Miller lied about not cutting Medicaid or Medicare. Instead, she voted for this Big but Not-Beautiful Bill so the Republican Party could give billionaires and millionaires more tax cuts. This bill will take healthcare away from people who need it most to give money to people who have more than enough. This will hurt everyone who comes into Quincy for medical care, as well as everyone in her district. I don’t want to have to rely on Springfield or St. Louis for care. I don’t think that’s what any of us here want.

Not only did she lie, Miller is now trying to put lipstick on a pig by claiming her vote was to remove “illegal aliens from SNAP.” First, undocumented people are not eligible for SNAP. She voted for something that is already the law of the land. Second, I’m tired of her racism. I’d much rather give hungry kids food.

Finally, Miller has been obsessively focused on a single trans child in Naperville playing sports. Many of her appearances on conservative and right-wing media during the last few months have been about trans children. For the record, Miller does not — I repeat, does not — represent Naperville. She represents us, or she would if she studied a map.

The closest our district is to Naperville is still more than 2 hours away (in Champaign-Urbana), yet she spends all her time attacking this child and obsessing on this child’s genitals. It’s not normal, and it’s not right. It’s downright creepy. What does Miller want? The right to look in all children’s pants? This child, like all children, no matter where they live, has a right to grow up free of being stalked and bullied by an adult who should, but does not, know better.

Miller does not represent Quincy or the surrounding areas. She should resign and give us the chance to elect someone who cares for our community, because she clearly does not.
