The Quincy Park District Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a series of projects on Wednesday, March 12, that will enhance some of the city’s recreational facilities and sites.

Among those projects is replacing 6,100 square feet of safety surfacing with new surfacing at Lincoln Park’s Kiwanis all-inclusive playground. “It will be well worth the cost,” commissioner Patty McGlothlin said. “That playground receives unbelievable use.”

Quincy’s three Kiwanis Clubs (Noon, Breakfast, Golden K) had a dream 10 years ago to build the all-inclusive playground for use by youths in the Quincy area.  Working closely with the Quincy Park District and the Quincy Park Foundation, funds were raised to buy the necessary equipment and construction, with Kiwanians providing much of the labor to assemble the equipment.

The playground, and the shelter built next to it, have been in use since 2015.  The project was named in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the founding of that international service organization.  No other similar playground can be found within a 70-mile radius of Quincy, and it is used extensively.

The Quincy Gem City “Breakfast” Kiwanis Club says thank you and congratulations to the Quincy Park District board and staff for working to serve the children of the Quincy area.
