As we all know, one of our own Quincy Police officers, Matt Hermsmeier, was shot and wounded on Thursday, Jan. 11, while responding to a call for service. Matt had surgery on Thursday and was discharged from the hospital Friday. Now he is recovering at his home.

My wife and I are offering to coordinate meals and food for Matt and his wife, Tristan McColez Hermsmeier. They are both incredibly grateful and overwhelmed by the support and love being offered to them at this time. Many people have been reaching out to the police department and directly to Tristan and Matt about what they can do to help.

In the best interest of giving Matt and Tristan privacy and time to heal, I ask that if you feel inclined to offer support to them through food, get them a gift card to a restaurant in Quincy. This will allow them to use the gift cards on their own time as needed. Matt will not be at work for an extended period.

Matt and Tristan cannot thank the community and those extending outside the city of Quincy enough. They have expressed their deepest appreciation and gratitude since Thursday and for the weeks and months to come.

Drop off any gift cards or mail them to:
