Bliefnick story to air Monday as first episode in limited series by ABC’s 20/20 called ‘Bad Romance’

Bad romance still

QUINCY — Now it’s ABC’s turn.

The show 20/20, the network’s newsmagazine that investigates intriguing crime and justice cases, is introducing a new true crime series called “Bad Romance.” The eight-episode limited series takes viewers inside relationships that turned bad.

It starts Monday, Jan. 22 with the story of Tim Bliefnick, who was convicted in May of murdering his estranged wife, Becky in her Quincy home in February 2023. He received three life sentences for the crime in August.

The trailer for the episode was released online this week. The full episode will air at 9 p.m.

48 Hours, the CBS network’s newsmagazine, aired its one-hour story about the case in an episode called “The Game Show and the Murder” in September. (See the trailer for that show below.) Dateline, the NBC network’s newsmagazine, aired “Ghost Rider” in November.

Tim Bliefnick claimed in the 48 Hours episode he did not kill his wife.

Becky Bliefnick, who had three sons with Tim Bliefnick, was found by her father in her home on February 23. She was found dead after being shot 14 times. She was 41.

Part of the episode, along with much of the national media, focuses on Tim Bliefnick’s 2020 appearance on the game show “Family Feud.”

“There’s a time when love becomes betrayal, and a time when betrayal becomes murder,” one of the show’s hosts says in the trailer released this week by ABC.

Adam Yates, chief of the Quincy Police Department, appears in the trailer, saying, “It just boggles your mind that somebody could do that to another human being.”

Casey Schnack, Tim Bliefnick’s attorney during his trial, also appears in the trailer. “I mean, you want to talk about the American dream? They had it,” she says.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The date of Becky Bliefnick’s death was incorrect in an earlier version of this story.
